Magnetic Cable Care & Cleaning

Magnetic charging cables can attract tiny metal particles over time. These particles can interfere with the connection and prevent proper charging.

Regular cleaning helps ensure reliable performance and a strong magnetic connection.

Why magnetic debris builds up

Because magnetic cables use magnets in both the cable head and tip, small metallic particles can be attracted to them.

These particles may come from:

  • dust and lint in pockets or bags

  • metal surfaces such as desks or tables

  • coins, keys, and other everyday objects

  • environments with metal filings (workshops, garages, factories)

Even very small particles can interfere with charging by preventing full contact between the cable and tip.

Signs debris may be affecting the connection

  • charging starts and stops

  • connection feels weak

  • cable does not snap firmly into place

  • charging only works at certain angles

Cleaning the connector usually resolves these issues.

How to remove magnetic debris

Method 1: Dry brushing (recommended)

  1. Place a piece of paper on a flat surface to catch debris.

  2. Hold the magnetic end of the cable facing downward.

  3. Use a soft, dry toothbrush to gently brush the connector.

  4. Metal particles will fall onto the paper.

⚠️ Use a dry brush only. Moisture can damage electronics.

Method 2: Compressed air

Use compressed air to blow debris away from:

  • the magnetic connector

  • the charging tip

  • your device port

Method 3: Lint-free cloth cleaning

Wipe the connector gently with a dry lint-free cloth.

If needed, lightly clean the metal contacts with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely before use.

Preventing debris buildup

To keep your cable performing at its best:

  • store cables away from loose metal objects

  • avoid placing connectors directly on dusty or metal surfaces

  • clean connectors periodically

  • keep tips inserted in devices to reduce exposure

  • avoid use in environments with metal filings or grinding dust

Important safety tips

  • Do not use liquids directly on the cable

  • Do not use sharp metal objects to clean connectors

  • Ensure connectors are dry before use

Good to know

  • Magnetic debris is a normal occurrence with magnetic connectors

  • Cleaning restores proper contact and charging performance

  • Regular maintenance helps ensure reliable long-term use
