Magnetic Cable Charging Speed Explained

Charging speed can vary depending on several factors. If your device is not charging as quickly as expected, this is usually related to power requirements and equipment compatibility rather than a fault with the cable.

This guide explains what affects charging performance and how to achieve the fastest possible speeds.

What determines charging speed?

Charging speed depends on the combination of:

  • the cable’s power rating

  • your wall charger output

  • your device’s power requirements

  • the charging protocol supported (e.g. USB-C Power Delivery)

  • battery protection and temperature controls

All components must support fast charging for maximum speed.

Cable power rating matters

Magnetic cable ranges support different maximum power levels.

Higher-power cables are required for charging larger devices such as laptops.

If a lower-power cable is used with a high-power device, charging may be slower or the device may maintain its battery level rather than increase.

👉 See the compatibility guide to identify your cable range.

Your wall charger is equally important

The cable cannot deliver more power than the charger provides.

For best performance:

  • use a high-output USB-C charger

  • ensure the charger supports fast-charging standards

  • use a quality cable designed for high power delivery

Devices only draw the power they need

Your device controls how much power it accepts.

For example:

  • phones draw less power than laptops

  • tablets draw moderate power

  • wireless accessories draw minimal power

Using a higher-power cable will not damage your device.

Why fast charging may not activate

Fast charging may not activate if:

  • the charger output is too low

  • the device does not support fast charging

  • a lower-power cable range is used

  • the battery is near full capacity

  • the device temperature is elevated

This behaviour is normal and protects battery health.

Charging slows near full battery

Many devices reduce charging speed once the battery reaches approximately 80–90%.

This helps:

  • reduce heat

  • protect long-term battery health

  • improve battery lifespan

Your cable is still working correctly.

Tips to achieve the fastest charging speeds

  • use a high-output wall charger

  • use the correct cable range for your device

  • ensure connectors are clean and fully aligned

  • avoid heavy device use while charging

  • keep devices cool during charging

Good to know

  • charging speed varies by device and charger

  • higher-power cables support faster charging for larger devices

  • wireless accessories charge at lower power levels

  • slower charging near full battery is normal
