Why Isn’t My Device Charging at Full Speed?
If your device is charging slower than expected, it is usually related to power requirements, cables, battery behavior, or device limitations — not a fault with the charger.
This guide explains the most common reasons and how to achieve the fastest possible charging speed.
1. Your Device Limits Charging Speed
Devices only draw the power they are designed to accept.
For example:
smartphones typically draw 18–30W
tablets may draw 30–45W
laptops may require 60–140W
Using a higher wattage charger will not force faster charging beyond what the device supports.
2. Proprietary Fast-Charging Technologies
Some brands use proprietary charging systems that require their original cables to reach maximum speeds.
Examples include:
OnePlus (SuperVOOC / Warp Charge)
Oppo / Realme VOOC
Huawei SuperCharge
Your device will still charge safely at the fastest supported standard speed when using third-party cables and chargers.
This is normal and not a defect.
3. Cable Power Rating Matters
Charging speed depends heavily on the cable used.
If a cable is not rated for high power:
charging speed may be reduced
laptops may not fast charge
power delivery may be limited
For best performance, use high-quality USB-C cables rated for the required wattage.
4. Battery Level Affects Charging Speed
Most devices charge fastest between 0% and ~70%.
Charging slows after ~80–90% because:
it protects battery health
it reduces heat buildup
it prevents overcharging
This behavior is built into modern battery systems.
5. Temperature & Safety Management
Charging speed may reduce when:
the device is warm
the charger is delivering high output
ambient temperature is high
This helps protect internal components and battery longevity.
6. Multiple Devices Sharing Power
If multiple devices are connected:
total charger output is shared
each device receives less power
charging speed may reduce
Disconnecting other devices allows maximum speed for a single device.
7. Laptop Power Requirements
Some laptops require higher wattage to charge at full speed.
If your charger provides less power than required:
the laptop may charge slowly
it may maintain battery level rather than increase
Check your laptop’s required wattage for optimal performance.
8. Port or Adapter Limitations
Charging speed may vary depending on:
the port used
travel adapters or extension boards
wall outlets with unstable power
Plug directly into a wall outlet for best results.
How to Get the Fastest Charging Speed
use a high-wattage charger suitable for your device
use a cable rated for the required power
charge one high-power device at a time
keep devices cool and ventilated
expect slower speeds above 80–90% battery
Good to Know
devices only draw the power they need
charging slows near full battery by design
proprietary fast charging may require original cables
multiple devices share available power
